I survived.

Year 2 is done. Gone. Finished. Forever.

…How in the world did I survive?

If you haven’t noticed, I have not posted anything since last year (hue hue). I had intended to continue with my Hong Kong travel diary but school came in and took over my soul time. But now. At the conclusion of this roller coaster ride, I can finally breathe and proudly declare that I have conquered one of the hardest periods of my life.

This semester was notorious for being absolute hell. Both among my cohort and seniors. “Oh it can’t be thaaaaat bad,” you think. WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG. Six modules for Mass Communication plus three for Interdisciplinary Studies. Each one equally as tough as the others.

Time for good ol’ summaries instead of rambling on and on about the entire semester. This uh… might be boring.

Why are you even reading this???

2015 Roundup

I needed something to wrap up 2015. So here is a list of what made 2015 amazing for me, in no particular order:

  • Became trash for a pun-loving troll of a skeleton
  • Got dunked on 123 times by said skeleton
  • Learnt to slice zombies with a ninja sword
  • Bullshitted my way through trials in the courtroom
  • High-fived Buddha
  • Return of the kings, B.A.P
  • Senpais noticed me!!!!
  • Crying over anime
  • Crying over next year’s anime
  • Survived part 1 and part 2.1 of Year 2 in the polytechnic
  • Miraculously managed to not lose the tiny cover for my phone’s charging point
  • Newfound appreciation for memes
  • Befriended many cats
  • Self-taught swimming and kickass water slides
  • FINALLY got my own personal healthcare assistant
  • Acquired clubbing spirit
  • Understood many truths about the universe
  • SHIT. LANGUAGE.
  • okay but this is legit I had my first lucid dreaming experience not too long ago it was pretty rad
  • I ate a snail
  • And best of all, spent time with family, nerds, scrubs and losers ❤

There’s a lot more where it came from but I don’t remember them. Please excuse my terrible memory.

Happy New Year, everyone. May 2016 be good to you all.

Semester Round-up!

The first semester of the second year concluded last week with a examinations on Public Relations. Good lord, I do not want to touch that ever again. Not my cup of tea.

If I had to describe the past few months in a single word… ‘Frightening’. You may think it’s quite the exaggeration. Half right. In the beginning, it was sugar, spice and everything nice. Then, it grew progressively worse. I’m a passive person, so being in the middle of all the conflict was… uncomfortable.

This time round, we took part 2 of Radio Production and feature writing. Those were the fun ones, and also the most hectic and challenging. The other three modules – Public Relations, Media Business Management and Communication Issues, were… meh. Don’t get me wrong, they’re important. Just not as enjoyable.

Life Update: 1st Week of Break

I have an awful habit.

Whenever I get a break, I huddle at home and do nothing but watch movies, play games, go on Youtube etc. I don’t have the energy to drag myself out of the house.

I do have a few plans though. There are a couple of local writing competitions that I’ve set my sights on. It’s the first time I am planning to write a story, actually. I have to find interviewees for the second term (ugh). Most importantly, revision for upcoming tests.

For the past week, some things happened. I got addicted to this game called Agar.io. Jeezus, I can’t control myself. Once I start, I can’t stop. Basically, it’s all about being a cell and you’re trying to get bigger but eating other cells. This game brought out the trash-talking side of me.

Breaking Free(ingSG)

As part of my assignment, I did a feature article on escape rooms. And requirements state I have to experience it myself and write a review on it.

Sure, why not?

I don’t want to give too much information here because I don’t want to be accused of plagiarism (curse you, SafeAssign!). Oh lord, if I post photos too, will that be considered against the rules too?

Alright, I’m gonna play it safe.

I’ll just give a very brief introduction. First off, the escape room company we visited was known as FreeingSG. We made a booking for the room entitled ‘Secrets of the Past – From Russia with Love’. It was my first time and I was awfully excited.

Life Update: Interviews, Marvel Madness

So yes, I haven’t posted anything in 14 days? Year 2 is one hell of a ride, and it’s only the 4th week of the semester.

Trust me, it’s not that bad. Really! The modules are cool, save for a few dry theories. However (there’s always a ‘however, isn’t there), this one frustrating issue haunts my everyday thoughts.

Interviews.

Now don’t get me wrong here. I have nothing against interviews, I even find a couple of them enjoyable. The pain in the neck comes from the fact that I am just a student. Throw me a radio assignment with a special guest, yes, I’ll do my best. But I don’t have the resources, the publicity and incentives to offer people. All I have are my persuasion skills, which are a little bit on the ‘meh’ side.

#fmsfbc15

That hashtag you see there? That is the tag for one of the most satisfying camps I’ve experienced in the 17 years of my not-so-action-packed life.

I found myself applying to be a member of the programme committee for FMSFBC2015, otherwise known as Film & Media Studies Freshmen Bonding Camp. Why? I’m uncertain, but I have a slight suspicion that one of the reasons was my subconscious wanting to avoid social interaction with strangers (I’m not good at it).

Nevertheless, I’ve dedicated myself to the role and preparations started. Over the course of one month, my awesome PLOG (programme and logistics) team wrecked brain cells to make FMSFBC2015 as good as last year’s, if not more. We planned, saw some of our plans fail, re-planned, did trials and whatnot. And painting. Lots and lots of painting. Ugh.
