Semester Round-up!

The first semester of the second year concluded last week with a examinations on Public Relations. Good lord, I do not want to touch that ever again. Not my cup of tea.

If I had to describe the past few months in a single word… ‘Frightening’. You may think it’s quite the exaggeration. Half right. In the beginning, it was sugar, spice and everything nice. Then, it grew progressively worse. I’m a passive person, so being in the middle of all the conflict was… uncomfortable.

This time round, we took part 2 of Radio Production and feature writing. Those were the fun ones, and also the most hectic and challenging. The other three modules – Public Relations, Media Business Management and Communication Issues, were… meh. Don’t get me wrong, they’re important. Just not as enjoyable.

Life Update: 1st Week of Break

I have an awful habit.

Whenever I get a break, I huddle at home and do nothing but watch movies, play games, go on Youtube etc. I don’t have the energy to drag myself out of the house.

I do have a few plans though. There are a couple of local writing competitions that I’ve set my sights on. It’s the first time I am planning to write a story, actually. I have to find interviewees for the second term (ugh). Most importantly, revision for upcoming tests.

For the past week, some things happened. I got addicted to this game called Agar.io. Jeezus, I can’t control myself. Once I start, I can’t stop. Basically, it’s all about being a cell and you’re trying to get bigger but eating other cells. This game brought out the trash-talking side of me.

Life Update: Interviews, Marvel Madness

So yes, I haven’t posted anything in 14 days? Year 2 is one hell of a ride, and it’s only the 4th week of the semester.

Trust me, it’s not that bad. Really! The modules are cool, save for a few dry theories. However (there’s always a ‘however, isn’t there), this one frustrating issue haunts my everyday thoughts.

Interviews.

Now don’t get me wrong here. I have nothing against interviews, I even find a couple of them enjoyable. The pain in the neck comes from the fact that I am just a student. Throw me a radio assignment with a special guest, yes, I’ll do my best. But I don’t have the resources, the publicity and incentives to offer people. All I have are my persuasion skills, which are a little bit on the ‘meh’ side.

#fmsfbc15

That hashtag you see there? That is the tag for one of the most satisfying camps I’ve experienced in the 17 years of my not-so-action-packed life.

I found myself applying to be a member of the programme committee for FMSFBC2015, otherwise known as Film & Media Studies Freshmen Bonding Camp. Why? I’m uncertain, but I have a slight suspicion that one of the reasons was my subconscious wanting to avoid social interaction with strangers (I’m not good at it).

Nevertheless, I’ve dedicated myself to the role and preparations started. Over the course of one month, my awesome PLOG (programme and logistics) team wrecked brain cells to make FMSFBC2015 as good as last year’s, if not more. We planned, saw some of our plans fail, re-planned, did trials and whatnot. And painting. Lots and lots of painting. Ugh.

Midway, and lots of coding

Woah, we are already halfway through January? Really?

I thought the previous hell week was bad. But the remaining weeks till the end of my current semester is utter damnation. Three weeks to film another short film, creating a website and writing a research essay in two weeks, and next week I have a photo essay to hand up. Do note I did not mention exams yet.

As always, I’m trying to keep my spirits up. If generations before me overcame this ‘crisis’ too, surely I can do the same? Good thing is, I have passion on my side. Killing brain cells for hard work is worthwhile.

Speaking of passion, I may have a newfound interest in web design. There is nothing concrete yet but when I was busy typing away at my laptop and inserting div tags, I was surprisingly having fun. This is very, very odd because it never occurred to me that I am actually be decent at it.

Hell of a week

So many things, and so little time.

The hell week is looming upon our class. It’s next week to be exact. Deadlines for our debate and our second photography assignment, three days of filming for a little horror story, plus two tests. And I have to design a website by next week.

My friends were all telling me that I look super chill about everything but believe me, I’m not. I won’t say I am stressed out, more like having a million thoughts running through my mind at the moment. I am also a little apprehensive about rushing my team mates for their work because I don’t want to be THAT guy (or girl). Time management has never been this intensive.

Good thing is, I’ll be following a bunch of weirdos to an anime convention this weekend. I get to unwind a little, and I can use the opportunity to hopefully complete my photography assignment. [sighs] People photography is not my forte.

Once we get past all these tight schedules, it’s going to be a two-week break for us! And I don’t know how else to end this, but here is a totally unrelated and random horror story recommendation so you cannot fall asleep tonight! How cool is that? 😀
